In the Media: Managing Energy for High Performance
__________
This media coverage of my work came through today — in a language I don’t speak, yet fully recognise.
While I can’t read the text directly, I can see the signal clearly: the ideas around conscious leadership, energy management, and sustaining performance are travelling across cultures and contexts. References to work with frameworks from environments like the NBA and NASA — where endurance, focus, and recovery are essential — have carried through as part of that narrative.
I don’t need to understand every word to understand the essence. The image, the context, and the transmission of the ideas speak for themselves.
Grateful to see this work finding its way into new parts of the world.

Sandja Brügmann, founder of a consultancy for executives and entrepreneurs, says that while managing limited time is important, we must not overlook something even more critical: managing our limited energy.
According to Inc. Magazine, there are several ways to boost energy and work more effectively. Below are some of Brügmann’s recommendations for managing and replenishing energy:
1. Spend time with the right people
Brügmann says that being around certain people can energize you and increase your motivation, while others can leave you drained. If you notice that some interactions deplete your energy, set boundaries and limit those interactions.
2. Choose foods that energize you
Eat foods that support your energy and vitality, and avoid foods that may provide short-term pleasure but do little for your body or energy levels. In general, organic or whole foods are beneficial.
3. Practice yoga
Yoga supports both body and mind. Whether through classes or online guidance, it helps increase focus and bring alignment across body, mind, and spirit.
4. Make time for meditation or solitude
Why was NBA coach Phil Jackson, who won 11 championships, called the “Zen Master”? Because he practiced meditation and even brought it into his teams. Meditation has been proven to reduce stress, improve focus, emotional regulation, resilience, and the ability to handle fear. Even five minutes a day can make a difference. If meditation feels unfamiliar, walking, spending time alone, or being in nature can have similar restorative effects.
5. Exercise
Although it may sound basic, physical exercise actually increases the mental energy needed for professional work. Find activities that move your body and boost your vitality. If the gym feels uninspiring, try group activities or find a partner for motivation.
6. Get enough sleep
Don’t sacrifice sleep to create more working time. Brügmann references NASA research showing that employees who take a 30-minute nap can improve performance by 35%. Rest improves clarity and perspective.
7. Make time for play and enjoyment
Play and laughter generate energy, satisfaction, and connection—and increase productivity. Research shows that one of the simplest ways to improve productivity is not more vacation or pay, but integrating more play into work.
8. Follow your passion
Ideally, your work aligns with your passion. When it does, it’s easier to find purpose and sustain effort. If you are still searching, spend more time on what you love.
