Exploring serenity, time and wisdom

In this conversation, Sandja Brügmann and Tor Nørretranders explore the concept of Shifting Baseline Syndrome—how each generation comes to accept the present as the norm, often losing sight of what has changed over time.

The dialogue examines the role of elders in society, not only as carriers of memory but as active contributors with a responsibility to share experience and perspective. It highlights the importance of community, the principles of a gift economy, and the need to rebuild conflict resolution as a core social capability.

Tor introduces the concept of Sindsro—a state of inner calm and acceptance—and reflects on the power of small, everyday interactions (Chula Hop moments) in strengthening social bonds.

Overall, the conversation calls for a renewed recognition of the value of elders and the cultivation of deeper, more meaningful connections across generations.
